Labour launches Energy White Paper
I was in the House on Wednesday to hear Labour’s Trade & Industry Secretary, Alistair Darling’s statement on the Energy white paper.
Clearly in energy policy we face two huge and complex challenges: climate change and maintaining security of supply, in an increasingly unstable world.
We can’t wholly rely on others to provide our energy. It is the job and responsibility of our Government to take these tough decisions now so we are prepared for the future.
Tony Blair steps down as leader of the Labour Party

On Thursday Tony Blair MP, Leader of the Labour Party, and John Prescott MP, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, announced they will step down from the leadership of the Labour Party.
Tony Blair further announced that on 27 June he will step down as Prime Minister.
The Labour Party will now begin the process of selecting a new leadership team with the new Leader and Deputy Leader being announced at the Leadership Conference on Sunday, 24 June.

Agreement in Northern Ireland
8 May confirmed as date for devolution
Monday saw the coming together of political parties to restore devolved government to Northern Ireland.
May 8 has been confirmed for the restoration of devolved Government to Northern Ireland after a historic meeting between the leaders of the DUP and Sinn Fein.
