Nominate the constituency’s best South Asian Restaurant
I have been asked to nominate the best South Asian restaurant in our constituency for the Tiffin Cup – a competition organised by a cross party group of MPs to raise money to support a charity in India and to recognise the wealth of restaurants and different cultures in the UK.
If you have a favourite South Asian restaurant (Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani of Sri Lankan for instance) that you would like me to nominate please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with your suggestions.
Digital Britain and apComms’ Journal
One of the groups I chair in Parliament is apComms – the All Party Parliamentary Group on Communications. We recently produced a journal on the future of communications (Internet, mobile, television etc.) and I thought you might be interested in the following pieces on reform and delivering on the promise for a digital Britain from myself, and the Communications Minister Lord Carter. I have also published the full length interview on digital divide with the Digital Inclusion Minister Paul Murphy MP in the apComms section of the website.
Several people have written to me about the BBC’s refusal to broadcast the Disaster Emergency Committee’s appeal on behalf of a number of UK charities for aid for Gaza. I have signed the Commons EDM expressing my disappointment over this and have sent the following open letter to the Director General of the BBC:
Newsletter January 2009
Many people have written to me about the recent events in Gaza and I am sure that the ceasefire on both sides – though coming far later than it should have – will be a relief to everyone. There is an abject humanitarian crisis in Gaza which has suffered monumental loss of life and I fear this will only hinder prospects for a sustainable peace.
